PTA Interest Survey:

Over the summer of 2015, we released a survey to get a benchmark on some basic questions we feel are important to the continued growth and development of our PTA. Below are the questions and their responses.

  1. Were you a member of the Lockwood Elementary PTA during the 2014/2015 school year?

    • Yes - 66%

  2. What grade(s) will your child(ren) be in during the 2015/2016 school year?

  4. All PTA sponsored activities, including after-school enrichment programs are required to have a PTA member present during the activity. If volunteering for one day a session were a requirement, would that prevent you from signing your child up?

  5. How much are you willing to spend on after school enrichment activities depending upon activity type?

    • Up to $5 a week - 20%

    • Up to $12 a week - 51%

    • Over $12 a week - 27 %

    • All activities should be free - 2%

  6. What topics would you like to see addressed at PTA Meetings?

    • Saving for your child's education - 42% (15 people)

    • Healthy eating - 36% (13)

    • Internet privacy/parental controls - 83% (30)

    • Social media safety - 94% (34)

    • Also suggested were the following topics:

      • speaker on the Birds and the Bees

      • Organization

      • Reading, how best to help a struggling learner/warning signs of dyslexia

      • NSD Updates

      • Writing grants for our schools

      • What the PTA can do to support high academic achievement

  7. What is your PTA doing that you would like to see continue

    • Family activities such as the dance, bingo, ice cream social, art and science docents

    • Helping families in need

    • Funding teachers/grants to schools

    • Limited fundraising

  8. What do you think our PTA should be doing that it currently is not?

    • Work with the Pace to beautify school grounds

    • More after school activities, especially on early release Wednesdays

    • Be more accessible

    • Respond to volunteers when they sign up to do something

    • More use of social media and an updated website

    • Engage the special education classes more

    • Work with LSO to bring days such as "favorite literary character" and "favorite college" days

    • Work with new parents on IEPs and 504 plans for kids that are showing signs of struggling

    • Put a comment box in the office for feedback on the PTA and the activities we sponsor

    • More info on the Hi Cap program the district offers

  9. Please provide any other feedback/concerns that you feel we should know about or address this school year.

    • Connect Leopard Laps to a specific goal or a project at the school - or provide information on how fundraising supports existing activities

    • There should be better communication with the teachers in regards to what their needs are so the PTA can support them and not only look to the parents in their own classrooms.
