Interested in getting involved at Lockwood? We would love to have your help in serving our students and staff for the 2020-2021 school year! Below are some opportunities currently available.
For additional questions or to volunteer, please contact Christie Lounsberry at: email@example.com
We realize this year is different than normal. but now more than ever it is important for our students, staff and families to come together as a community to support each other. To that end we are looking for ways to adapt beloved Lockwood programs to the virtual format.. as well as seeking out new opportunities to bring to our Lockwood community. Please join us in helping to keep our Leopard Pride strong during the 2020-2021 school year!
Current Open Board Positions:
The Lockwood PTA Board meets 8 times a year (approximately 1.5-2 hours per meeting) to plan and carry out the business and initiatives of the PTA. Below is a description of each open position:
Enrichment Chair: attend board meetings; organize after school enrichment programs for Lockwood students by coordinating with outside vendors, facilitating student registration and recruiting parent volunteers for each session to comply with Lockwood PTA's insurance requirements. (This could be a co-chair position)
In addition to the board positions above, we also have the following committee and lead positions open for next year:
Virtual Family Events - Do you have an idea for a virtual family event this year? Help bring some online fun to our Lockwood families! We are looking for ideas and folks who are willing to lead the charge on them (Time Commitment: 5-10 hours depending on event type)
Parent Enrichment - Coordinate speakers or educational programs for Lockwood PTA members. This can be done in collaboration with other local PTAs or as an event just for Lockwood members. Ideally we would be able to offer 2-3 events per year.
PBIS Team Representative - The PBIS team is made up of Lockwood staff members and a PTA Representative. The PBIS team meets every other week for a 30-minute meeting to discuss upcoming events, assemblies, and ways to continue supporting students and staff. As the PBIS PTA rep, your main goal is to provide ongoing support to students and staff by motivating PAWS and SEL behavior and recognizing students for their efforts to practice them. In the past, this has looked like PAWS UP tickets and the weekly ticket drawings at lunch, the Happiness Party in the spring, the monthly Classroom PAWS UP recognition, and monthly themes that continue to promote and support PAWS and SEL behavior. This position would be great for a creative person who loves to organize events and activities, as well as create fun ways to promote good PAWS behavior and motivate the kids to look for and find ways to be kind to each other and make good decisions. There is a small budget to work with for printing, the Kindness assembly and other events that we support. The Lockwood PBIS team is fully committed to creating a sense of belonging among all students and to promote positive behavior in fun and creative ways that make it meaningful for the community. We welcome you to join our team.
(Time Commitment - Varies based on how much and how creative you want to be. Some months might require more time to prepare for an assembly, party, poster promotions, or event. Therefore, the overall monthly time is fluid and changes depending on what is happening.)
Financial Review Committee - meets 2x year to review the Lockwood PTA financial documents for compliance (Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per review)
Golden Acorn Committee - solicits nominations from our community for our annual recognition awards in the spring, selects the winners, purchases prizes or certificates and presents these awards at our May General Membership Meeting (Time Commitment: 4-6 hours)
Nomination Committee - recruit candidates for the next year's executive committee, including President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer (committee is active in the winter, Time Commitment: 4-8 hours)
Other Ways to Get Involved
Do none of these seem right for you but you would still like to be involved? Or maybe you prefer to just help out the day of the event? Please email Christie at: firstname.lastname@example.org to be added to our volunteer email list.
We will contact you as events or programs come up that need volunteers to see if you have an hour or two to help out. Many of our events and programs take 15-20 (or more!) volunteers to run... we can't do it without you! Examples of events and programs that we would solicit volunteers for include: Picture Day, Health Screening, Science Fair, Family Dance, Bingo, Leopard Laps, Book Fair and more!
